Ideas for a summer team building activity

Summer is coming, can you think of a better way to motivate your team than by organising an outdoor team building event? A great way to get outdoors and have a great time bonding with colleagues with fun filled and action-packed activities in the fresh air and summer sunshine.

A lot of venues in the UK will have the space outdoors to accommodate these activities.

1. School Sports Day

Remember the good old days of school sports day? This blast from the past corporate sports day event will bring out your inner child while you try and beat your colleagues to the finish line.

Egg and spoon race, the sack race, tug of war – all absolute favourites – plenty more and even the chance to win a medal and prizes at the end!

Definitely a day to remember.

2. Survival Island

The best way to have fun, but at the same time establishing trust, building strong team bonds and improving on communication is emergency survival planning.

A team will be able to learn transferrable skills that they will be able to adapt to their working environment.

Build an emergency shelter using improvised techniques, lighting a fire with no matches, learning about the importance of food and water in an emergency situation.

3. Outdoor Pursuits

For a wide range of interesting and challenging pursuits, gather your team and get them trying all manner of fun activities!

The ancient art of archery – historically used for hunting and combat.

Duck Herding – this hilariously entertaining activity involves great teamwork, good listening and lots of patience! Plenty more to choose from – Abseiling, Axe Throwing, Lawn Games.

4. Apprentice-themed activity

If you are a fan of The Apprentice, this is the activity for you.

You are met at your venue of choice by the event manager who will brief you on your task, split into teams with a list of items you must find, by any means possible – all legal of course!

This kind of activity is a great way to build creativity and team management – just make sure you don’t get fired! Charm and barter your way to get the best deals and beat the other teams.

5. The Crystal Challenge

Based on the really popular 90’s game show – Crystal Maze, this is probably one of the most popular team building activities that can be done outdoors – but it can be done indoors too!

Teams compete against each other in an exciting mix of activities – running between the famous zone – Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Futuristic.

The challenges are designed to test the participants mental, physical and skilled attributes. All leading to the final finish in the famous dome collecting as many golden tickets as they can – great fun and competitive at the same time – all friendly of course!
